Meet our Team

Image
Second Chance Rescue prides itself on offering an infinite amount of chances to animals in need. No matter their condition, our staff takes them in, provides top-notch care, and works round the clock to ensure every animal's life meets our standard of joyful.  However, every last bit of this would be next to impossible without our amazing staff that keeps our sanctuary up and running. Would you like to meet them? We thought so. First, we'd like to introduce our Executive Director, Sidney Lewis. She shared with us that her passion for animal welfare started at an early age and continued as she progressed through high school and college.  "When I was little, my mom and I were constantly rescuing orphaned kittens. By high school, I had filled our house to the brim with animals: dogs, cats - one time I even rescued a mockingbird! In college, I spent my time volunteering at the local shelter and interning there as well. I am so grateful my passion for animals gets to...

Being a Friend

Image
Hello again to all of our family and friends around the world! We don't always get the chance to tell you, but all of us at Second Chance Rescue are thankful for your continued support and encouragement. Without it, our sanctuary would not be in the position it is today, nor would we call such awesome people our friends. Speaking of friends, you might be wondering: "Why do they call us that? We've never met." There's a reason for that, so let us explain. Because of social media, we are always together. Experts refer to this as "mobile marketing," which basically means a personal interaction between an organization and its consumers or followers. Every time you "like" a picture of one of our residents - whether it be a dog, cat, bird, or reptile - you help us learn what is important to you. Every time you comment on our statuses or share your stories with our social media staff, we get the chance to engage with each of you; we get to kno...

Feathered Friends Matter

Image
When people think of animal sanctuaries, they often think of puppies and kittens, dogs and cats. What people forget are the thousands of other animal species that are bought as pets each year and likewise abandoned by their families. At Second Chance Rescue, we are keenly aware of the crisis for thousands of birds, reptiles, and rodents that are left with nowhere to go and, quite often, in habitats their bodies are not suited for. Today, we'd like you to meet a member of our avian family. His name is Thunder, and he is a mature white cockatoo. Five years ago, he was purchased from a breeder in Texas and shipped north to Montana. The state is known for its harsh, bone-chilling winters; however, this didn't seem to bother Thunder, as he spent his days inside a temperature-controlled environment. Unfortunately, in just a few months, things would take a turn for the worst. The family had purchased Thunder because they wanted a talking bird for their guests to enjoy. D...

Sharing Our Message

Image
At Second Chance Rescue, we want people to learn how to get involved with animal rescues to reduce the amount of unwanted and abandoned animals. The question we always receive from our supporters is "how can we help?" With a quick smile, we always reply the same way: share our message. Share our message by sharing it with your friends. You can do this through social media or through simply talking with those you love about animal welfare. Tell them how important it is to spay and neuter your pets; talk to them about your favorite rescue story. By spreading the mission of Second Chance Rescue to a larger audience, you are giving animals across the nation a new chance at life. How else can you share our message? We have some suggestions.  1. Use the hashtag #secondchancerescue when you're volunteering with us! We'd love to see your pictures and share them with our followers. 2. Invite your friends to "like" our Facebook page. This ensures they'll...

Welcome to Second Chance Rescue!

*DISCLAIMER* This blog was created for a class assignment and does not represent a real non-profit organization* Our core mission is to give "un-adoptable" animals - whether it be a newborn kitten, a senior dog, an injured show horse, or a forgotten parrot - a permanent home.  Many animals are labeled as "un-adoptable" due to temperament or age. The sad reality is that many of those exact animals still have a long life to live and love to give. Second Chance gives a new, hope-filled future to pets in need.
